We teach Yang Style Tai Chi. Come for the slow controlled movements the forms are known for while learning their martial applications. This connection of the Tai Chi movements and the purpose behind the movements will allow you to experience a deeper understanding and the benefits of Tai Chi.

San Rafael Martial Arts, founded in 2011 by Sifu Terrance Thornton, is sharing over 35 years of Martial Arts experience with Marin County. Sifu Thornton has had the privilege of teaching many people over the years whom have become great martial artists, tournament champions and Grand Champions. My proudest accomplishment is watching our students achieve their martial arts goals and beyond. Watching kids do better academically in school; watching teens gain confidence inside and outside of class; watching adults experience and achieve new fitness and self-defense goals and seniors get stronger and gain better balance beyond their expectations.
San Rafael Martial Arts is committed to their student’s martial arts success and goals. This commitment to excellence is not demanded, but shown and lived by all instructors.
San Rafael Martial Arts teaches Choy Li Fut Kung Fu and Yang style Tai Chi. I started my journey in these arts at Doc-Fai Wong Martial Arts Center, founded by Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong in 1968. I have had the privilege of learning from Tai Sifu Jason Wong, the Chief Instructor of Doc-Fai Wong Martial Arts Center.

A member of the Business Improvement District,(BID) since 2012. Honored to now be on their Board of Directors to continue to make Downtown San Rafael a great place to shop, dine and learn Kung Fu and Tai Chi.
As a member of San Rafael Clean, we are committed to keeping our school front and back clean of debris and graffiti. We also keep the gutters in the street clean. That's just the outside, wait until you see the inside.
